We Join You in Remembering Those Whose Lives Were Taken
The rubble has been cleared away; the ashes washed clean by the rains. Impassioned discussions of a proper memorial have made the headlines in New York papers. The missing towers are a somber reminder that our world will somehow never be the same. We lost more than buildings and even more than lives on 9/11; we now know we are more vulnerable to evil forces than ever before.
Yet I have seen in these ten years since that fateful day in 2001 that the lasting effect has left some good effects upon our lives, too. Many more people are showing respect for our firefighters and police officers and many are discovering a new interest in God perhaps for the first time.
Life is precious and short. We are learning that it can be cut off without warning and we need to enjoy life while here on earth and learn what to do about our demise. Such thoughts inevitably turn us to God whom the Bible says loves us beyond our wildest imaginations. Jesus said, “I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.” (John 12:46) and, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)
On our tenth anniversary of that fateful 9/11, fly the flag, pray for America and above all walk in the light of God’s love for you and me; be sensitive to the needs of those around you; forgive those who have ought against you and live as if this just might be the last day of your life on this globe.
Remember and be filled with praise that God has not cut us off from His love and grace. There is yet time to repent and discover the joys of life with Him. God bless America and that blessing has to begin with you and me as we live allowing our sphere of influence be dominated by a life lived in and by the Spirit of God that came to us through faith in Jesus, the Christ.
Amen.
