Jesus: The Power Of His Name

A few weeks ago two ladies from our Church had been out shopping and were leaving a restaurant to return home.

Deliverance

The driver had helped her friend in the car and put her walker in the back.  As she opened the door to get in the car, a man grabbed the door and demanded the keys to the car. Since the car door was open the lady in the front seat heard and saw the action. Her immediate reaction was to say with purpose and authority, “in the name of Jesus let her go.”  The man released the door and paused just long enough for the driver to get it the car.

But before she could close the door her grabbed her arm and demanded that she get out.  The passenger this time “observed the power of a demon and spoke even more loudly and firmly, ‘I see you, Evil Spirit, and by the power of Jesus Christ I command you to leave us alone.'” The fellow seemed dazed, stepped back as if pushed and actually said, “I’m sorry.”  They drove away praising God and praying for the salvation of the young man.

Amazing, the authority that lies in the name of Jesus when used by someone who knows Him and believes.  The incident gives every apparent evidence that the man in his spirit recognized and acknowledged the authority in that Name of Jesus.

It is recorded in Acts 16:18 NLT that the Apostle Paul was mocked by a woman who was following him. It says, “This went on day after day until Paul got so exasperated that he turned and said to the demon within her, ‘I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.’  And instantly it left her.”

Remember that passage in Philippians 2:10 NLT which reads, “At the name of Jesus every knee should now, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  Indeed, all of creation, spiritual and physical must yield to the Lordship of the Son of God, Jesus Christ the Righteous!

At present the Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit for all those who believe. (Rom. 14:17) At His coming that Kingdom shall control even the structure of the New Heaven and New Earth. “Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore.” (Is. 65:17 NLT)  The apostle Peter carries on the theme in 2Peter 3:13 NLT), “We are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.”  Then again in the last portion of the last book it is recorded, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared.” (Rev. 21:1 NLT)

“Precious Lord, now today, I bow before You and yield to your claim upon me as one redeemed and cleansed by Your cleansing blood.  Let my life reflect your Lordship in all that I do and say.

In Your Name I pray, Lord Jesus, Amen.”
